Here is your opportunity to have your say and to help us shape the future

Do you have? A few hours a week or month to spare? A friendly outlook? Lots of enthusiasm? A desire to share and learn new skills?

Our volunteer team is the beating heart of Theatr Gwaun. It is critical to the running of your community theatre! The roles of a volunteer are many and varied, from providing a warm welcome to customers, checking tickets, bar work, marketing and distributing posters and brochures, fundraising, committee work, cleaning, live event management and much much more. There really is something for everyone!

Meet a few of the Team behind Theatr Gwaun

Patrick Thomas

Chair of Trustees
I grew up in Leicestershire and lived for many years in Oxford before moving to Fishguard in 1994 with my partner and our two sons. I worked as a social worker and then as an academic, retiring in 2017 after ten years as Professor of Childhood and Youth Research at the University of Central Lancashire. I have always been passionate about theatre, as a frequent audience member and occasional performer (you may have seen me in Brassed Off, or maybe in Land of Our Fathers). I was very happy to join the Board of Theatr Gwaun when invited in 2018, although somewhat surprised just a short time later to become the Chair. I am very happy to be approached by anyone who is interested in joining the Trustee Board or otherwise contributing to the governance of Theatr Gwaun (email patrick@theatrgwaun.com). Dw i’n siarad Cymraeg, tipyn bach o leiaf.

Linda Ogilvie-Davis

Volunteer
I have enjoyed volunteering as an usher since the Theatr was first taken over by the community. I’m also involved with FADDS as costume designer and I have been known to tread the boards with Best Foot Forward. Our theatre is a unique and wonderful asset to be treasured and enjoyed by everyone.

Henry Jones

Trustee and Treasurer
I would consider myself a Fishguardian. I came to the area nearly seventy years ago and later married a local girl and we had a son who is married and has lived locally all his life. My wife and I resided in Park House since 1980 but unfortunately she died in 2007 and I have continued to live there. Before retirement I worked for a large American Company as a degreed engineer for 35 years working on construction projects world wide, commencing as a young engineer, building local Oil Refineries rising on my retirement to being a senior member on the 5 man Project Management team that oversaw the construction of High Speed 1, St. Pancras to the Channel Tunnel.

Maggie Stringer

Volunteer
I have been involved with Theatr Gwaun for around 20 years. I have done many different roles as a member of the audience, as a volunteer and as a Trustee, a role I have fulfilled for several years until retiring in March 2021. I am also a member of FADDS and BFF.

Paul Howe

Chief Executive and Theatre Manager
As a relatively infrequent visitor to Theatr Gwaun for many years, it was a ‘late 40s’ dalliance with amateur dramatics that drew me ever closer to the theatre. In early 2018 I joined the Board of Trustees with a remit to help to improve organisational processes, with a particular focus on finance, IT and marketing. I stepped down from this role in January 2022 to take up the post of Theatre Manager and then Chief Executive and Theatre Manager. I am a passionate guardian of the independent, community focussed asset that is Theatr Gwaun and my continuing, extended involvement as Chief Executive and Theatre Manager reflects my desire to play a more proactive part in sustaining and developing this fantastic community asset. Should you need to, the best way to contact me is via email on phowe@theatrgwaun.com.

Cilla Morgan

Trustee and Secretary
Since its re-opening in January 1995 with FADDS pantomime ‘Cinderella I have been actively involved with Theatr Gwaun and a further twenty-five pantomimes. I have also appeared in productions with Best Foot Forward, Songs from the Musicals and Fishguard Musical Theatre Society. For several years I have been a volunteer and have served on the Trustee Board for the last three years.

Elizabeth

Duty Manager

Blanche-Rose Giacci

Trustee
I spent my childhood in the wilds of Southern Africa and my family moved back to London in 1970. I completed my education in London then we moved to Pembrokeshire, 35 years ago. I have now retired from over 20 years working in the National Probation Services of Wales, supporting men and women with complex needs. I have also spent time living and working in Italy and speak Italian. I have been a volunteer at Theatr Gwaun for about 10 years and now that I have retired I have more time to be involved.  I produce the annual International Women’s Day Variety Show , as a fundraiser for the theatre and women’s refuge. I have developed a passion for the vibrant environment of the theatre and I hope that I will contribute to the success of live events in my Trustee role as Events Manager and overall customer experience. I hope to help promote the theatre as a social centre for entertainment and culture, accessible to the whole community.

Jana Davidson

Duty Manager
Hi I'm Jana, one of the Duty Manager team. I've been involved in theatre pretty much all my life and love being involved with Theatr Gwaun and it's community. When I am not welcoming you for a film or live event you can find me running my arts & crafts business, welcoming cruise ships or being a part of local drama groups FADDS who produce the annual panto and Best Foot Forward Drama Group, I also run the local youth theatre OutcastTheatreWorkshop. I look forward to seeing you at Theatr Gwaun soon.

Simon Coton

Trustee
I've lived and worked in Wales for 25 years and moved to Dinas in 2018 after many happy years in the Brecon Beacons. Always a keen visitor to the theatre, I've been a fan of the shows since seeing Paddington Bear: The Musical, aged 8. I'm a big cinema buff and have a wide range of interests from blockbusters to independents. I work in Information Technology, mostly in the Utilities sector, and have been responsible for several transformation projects over the years. I have a wide range of interests, from gardening to international development. I'm looking forward to helping keep Theatr Gwaun the fantastic community asset that it is.
