Martha’s at Theatr Gwaun,  A New Venture for a New Era

Opening Thursday 12th November

We are ecstatic to announce that Theatr Gwaun will open its doors this week for the first time since March! Martha’s at Theatr Gwaun offers Fishguard a new café, meeting and performance space. Our programme includes regular day-time events in a safe, warm environment with plenty of excellent, simple hospitality. Our offer will include cakes from the newly opening Red Onion Café which is located on the site of Fishguard Garden Centre.

With the help of many generous donations, funding and volunteer power, the foyer and café area have been spruced-up, COVID-19 precautionary measures installed throughout and the auditorium made ready. The event programme will start on our opening day with a performance by classical musicians Matthew Bale and Lorna Osbon. They have been simply amazing in the past month, releasing 35 daily tracks and raising over £2,000 for Theatr Gwaun.

The café area has also become an exhibition space. Currently featuring the Wickenden Collection – a series of limited edition prints, water colours, art books, and records, donated for sale by the Wickenden family with all proceeds going to the theatre.

The daytime programme will take place between 11 am and 2pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday featuring local performers and speakers. We are delighted to be working with Aberjazz and Fishguard Folk Festival to bring you some amazing music.

The initial performances will be un-ticketed with the intention to expand to events that can be booked in advance. The plan is to stage more full-scale theatrical and musical productions as soon as audience levels can be expanded.

Theatr Gwaun will continue as a valued – indeed essential – local cinema in the evenings and selected day time slots starting on 15th November with the screening of The National Theatre’s War Horse.

A full programme of the coming events can be seen on our website at

Advance booking will be essential for the cinema. Don’t forget to buy any snacks and drinks you want for the film when you are booking your ticket as there will be no sale of these items from the booking office. Bookings can be made on our website or by phone.

The film programme in the coming months has been put together from the enthusiastic responses to our Facebook survey and with expert input from Fishguard Film Society.
